Three new national records were broken here on the first day of the Sheikh Kamal 38th National Junior (age group) Athletics competition held at Bangabandhu National Stadium in the city on Friday.
In the girl's 100m juvenile, Sumiaya Akter of Bangladesh Krira Shikkha Prothistan (BKSP) set the new national mark with a time of 12.49s and broke her team mate Sonia Akter's 12.66s record created in 2019.
In the boy's 1500m juvenile, Md Shawon of Kurigram District Sports Association (DSA) set the new national record clocking 4.14:12s breaking the previous new record of 4:19. 20 s set by Bijoy Mollik of Naral DSA in 2018.
The day's third record was registered in the girl's shot put event. Sharmin Akter of BKSP set the new national record clearing 12.10 meters and eclipsed her team mate Tahamina Akter Lopa the previous record 10.42 meter set in 2016.
In the 100, boy's and girls' events, Md. Shipan Mia of BKSP emerged as fastest man with a time of 11.37s while Mim Akter emerged as fastest woman in the 100m with a time of 12.70s.
In the juvenile 100m event, Delwar Hossain of BKSP emerged as fastest man clocking 11.20s while Sumiya Akter of the same team emerged as the fastest woman with a new national record of 12.49 s.
Earlier, Prime Minister's Office Secretary Mohammad Salah Uddin formally inaugurated the three-day meet as the chief guest. Bangladesh Olympic Association's secretary general Syed Shahed Reza was present there as the special guest.
