MP Anar murder: Court places 'butcher' Jihad on 12-day remand

A court of Barasat in North 24 Pargana district of West Bengal has placed 'butcher' Jihad on a 12-day remand for questioning in Anwarul Azim Anar MP murder in Kolkata of India.

Producing him before the court at about 11:00am on Friday (May 24), police pleaded to place him on a 14-day remand. However, the court granted police 12-day remand for him.
The West Bengal Criminal Investigation Department (CID) on Thursday arrested  Bangladeshi national Jihad Howlader who was working as a butcher in Mumbai.

Since his arrest, different mass media in India reported that 24-year-old Jihad Howladar, a resident of Barakpur in Khulna, was arrested from Bangaon. He narrated his involvement in the sensational murder of MP Anar under questioning.

Ananda Bazar and NDTV said Jihad disclosed during questioning by CID that Anar was first strangled. Then his body was severed into pieces, and bones and flesh were separated. The accused put turmeric powder after removing skins from the limb so that they could say that the meat was taken for cooking if someone asked. The detectives learnt that the body parts were spread at different places.

Quoting the West Bengal CID sources, Anandabazar reported that Jihad was taken to a place at Bhangar following his arrest on Thursday. He confessed that he had left the body parts there following the murder of Anar. However, police didn't find any body parts there in the darkness of night.

Jihad confessed to killing MP Anar along with four other Bangladeshi nationals.

The accused dismembered the MP's body in a bid to hide his identity, the CID said.

'Butcher' Jihad was brought to Kolkata from Mumbai two months ago at the behest of Md Akhtaruzzaman Shahin, a US citizen of Bangladeshi origin and the alleged mastermind of the MP's murder, the CID said.

CID sources said Howladar was staying illegally in Mumbai. He entered India illegally.

Jihad said that they had commit the murder at the directive of Akhtaruzzaman Shahin.
