Cultural Councilor of Chinese Embassy to Bangladesh Li Shaopeng said on Wednesday "Bangladesh and China have many cultural similarities, but tea culture ties two countries in a strong bond."

Speaking at a tea party marking International Tea Day organized by The Embassy of the people's Republic of China in Bangladesh and Bangladesh Chaina Friendship centre at Banani Club he said, "Today, we gather to celebrate International Tea Day, a day dedicated to one of the world's most beloved beverages. Tea, with its rich history, cultural significance, and myriad health benefits, has earned a special place in the hearts and homes of people across the globe."
He said, "Marking the day we are trying to raise awareness about the vital role that tea plays in our economies, societies, and personal lives.

General Secretary of Bangladesh China Friendship Centre  HM Jahangir Alam Rana presented the programme.

Speakers said that, story of tea begins in ancient China, over 5,000 years ago, when Emperor Shen Nong is said to have discovered the refreshing qualities of tea leaves that accidentally blew into his pot of boiling water. Since then, tea has traveled across continents and cultures, evolving into a symbol of hospitality, tradition, and community.

The speakers also said, in China, tea is more than just a drink; it is a cultural heritage. The Chinese tea ceremony, known as "gongfu cha," is a meticulous and meditative practice that highlights the artistry and philosophy behind tea preparation.

Speakers added that, Every step, from the selection of leaves to the pouring of tea, is performed with care, symbolizing harmony and respect.

International Tea Day, celebrated on May 21st, to promote and foster the sustainable production and consumption of tea.
