Dhaka South City Mayor Sheikh Fazle Noor Taposh said on Sunday that in last four years his main challenge was ensuring good governance.
Speaking at a press conference at Mayor Hanif Bhaban, he said, "From the very first day, I took zero tolerance policy to check irregularities, negligence and corruption."
"So far we dismissed 38 officers and staff for neglecting duty and involvement in corruption," he said.
Taposh said, 143 drivers of heavy vehicles, 66 sub-assistant engineers, 77 accountants, 27 revenue supervisors, 31 cleaning inspectors, 20 spray men supervisors were appointed in last four years.
Recruitment of 217 personnel is under process, he said.
Regarding increased revenue collection, he said, "We collected over Tk 513.96, Tk 703.31 and Tk 1031.97 crore in 2019-2020, 2020-2021, 2022-2023 fiscal year respectively."
"To fulfill our promise we did not increase tax rate in last four years, he said, adding we collected tax from 14 out of 25 sectors."
He said until April of current fiscal year Tk 54 crore more was collecte4d compared to the corresponding period of the previous fiscal.
Taposh said that during corona virus pandemic the DSCC created history by collecting taxes.
He said that waterlogging has been solved in most of the areas except Kamalapur, Green Road and New Market due to ongoing projects. Water logging in those areas will be solved soon, he added.
