'Kacchi Bhai' owner Sohel gets bail

The owner of Kacchi Bhai restaurant Sohel Siraj has been granted bail in a case filed over the deadly Bailey Road fire that claimed 46 lives on February 29.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Tahmina Haq passed the order on Wednesday. The court granted him bail on a bond of Tk 5,000 with a guarantor.

During hearing, Sohel Siraj’s lawyer said Sohel was in abroad when the fire incident occurred and there was no negligence of the owner of the restaurant in this connection.  The lawyer said Sohel is a taxpayer and he won’t fled the country.

Meanwhile, on May 7, Sohel was arrested at Dhaka airport by immigration police and handed over to the CID when he arrived from Malaysia.

The next day, the CID sought a five-day remand for him but the court granted them two days.

Earlier on February 29, a deadly fire broke out at a multi-storey building on Bailey Road housing eateries and other shops, leaving 46 people dead, including women and children.
