Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader has asked the authorities to take action to halt the operation of battery-run rickshaws in the capital.

"No battery-run three-wheeler will be allowed to operate in Dhaka city. We have already banned these vehicles on 22 highways. Take necessary measures to ensure roads out of battery-run rickshaws."

Quader made the directive at a meeting held at the Bangladesh Road Transport Authority (BRTA) office at Banani in the city on Wednesday.
Earlier, two mayors of Dhaka city had agreed to enforce ban on battery-operated autorickshaws in the capital.

Meanwhile, about motorcycle, the minister said, "We have managed to control plying of motorcycles in Dhaka city. Now almost everyone wears a helmet. But a policy needs to be adopted outside Dhaka. "No helmet, no fuel" (No fuel without a helmet). Not more than two people, including the driver of the motorcycle, can be carried across the country. And everyone must have a helmet. Otherwise fuel cannot be sold.
