Bashundhara wins semifinals to meet Mohammedan in final

Bashundhara Kings humiliated Dhaka Abahani in a 3-0 match in the semi-final of the Federation Cup on Tuesday in Gopalganj and confirmed the final of the tournament. The team will meet Mohammedan Sporting Club in the final on 22 May.

It was a good opportunity for Dhaka Abahani to play its 22nd final of the Federation Cup. But Bashundhara Kings and Abahanis keeper Shahidul Alam Sohel jointly downed the traditional sky-blue battalion in the match.

Both played equally in the first 20 minutes then the sky-blue unit went to backfoot digesting one goal. The boys could not recover from that till the breather.

Robson Azevedo da Silva, the ace striker of Bashundhara netted the first goal for the team in the 21st minute. A combined effort of Rakib Hossain and Robson paid off for Bashundhara yet it was not a tough one. It was primarily Abahani keeper Shahiduls fault to detect and counteract timely. The keeper was not in the proper position to prevent that from happening.

When another Brazilian striker Dorielton Gomes Nascimento came to net the teams second goal in the 71st minute he too didn face a hard time.

Finally, local winger Mohammad Ibrahim netted the teams third to nail Abahanis coffin in injury time.

Failing the match, Abahani returned empty-handed on the day. On the contrary, Bashundhara Kings is getting ready to play the fourth final.

Earlier, Mohammedan Sporting Club secured the final of Federation Cup Football for the 17th time on 7 May as the boys in the traditional black and white outfits outplayed Bangladesh Police boys in a 2-1 match in the first semi-final match in Munshiganj.

The final of the tournament is rescheduled to be played on 22 May at the Rafiq Uddin Bhuiyan Stadium in Mymensingh. On 21 May, the previous date of the match, a local election was to take place and eventually, the local organisers had to reschedule the match considering everything.
