A day-long international seminar on 'Plant Science' was held at Islamic University (IU) in Kushtia on Sunday.
The Biological Science faculty of the university organized the event at the virtual room of ICT cell in the morning.
IU Pro-vice Chancellor Professor Dr Mahbubur Rahman addressed the program as chief guest while Treasurer Professor Dr Alamgir Hossain Bhuiyan was the special guest.
Rector Professor Dr Mehmet Hakki Alma of Igdir University, Turkey was present as an honorable guest chaired by Biological Science faculty dean of IU Professor Dr Rezuanul Islam. IU International Affairs Division director Professor Dr Mohammad Abu Hena Mostofa Jamal conducted the seminar.
Professor Dr Ibrahim Demirtas, dean of Science and Art of Igdir University, Turkey addressed the seminar as keynote speaker. He delivered the speech about propolis, which is a resin-like material made by bees from the buds of poplar and cone-bearing trees. It fights against cancer cells without side effects, also fighting against bacteria, viruses, and fungi. It might also have anti-inflammatory effects and help skin heal.
''We are grateful for the better hospitality system of Islamic University. We are trying to enrich our connectivity between two universities through innovation, research, education and try to sign a Memorandum as soon as possible. The help-hand is always open to the IU'', said Rector Professor Dr Mehmet Hakki Alma of Igdir University, Turkey.
IU theology faculty dean Professor Dr A B M Siddikur Rahman Ashrafi, Biotechnology and Genetic Engineering dept Professor Dr. Nilufa Akhter Banu, Dr. Mohammad Minnatul Karim, Dr. Sudhangshu Kumar Biswas, Al-quran & Islamic Studies dept. Professor Dr Nasir Uddin Mizy, Al-fiqh & Legal Studies dept. chairman Professor Dr Nasir Uddin Azhari, Professor Dr Atikur Rahman, and many teachers-students of various departments were present there.
