The nomination paper of Shahadat Hossain, younger brother of Awami League general secretary and Road Transport and Bridges minister Obaidul Quader, has been declared invalid for concealing information of a criminal case against him.
Returning Officer, also additional district magistrate Muhammad Ismail cancelled his nomination for concealing information about a criminal case and sources of his income and expenses in the affidavit on Sunday (May 5).
The valid candidates for the post of chairman in that upazila are former upazila chairman and incumbent upazila Awami League general secretary Mizanur Rahman Badal, former convenor and businessman of upazila Jubo League Mohammad Golam Sharif Chowdhury Pipul and US expatriate Omar Ali.
Regarding the cancellation of the nomination paper, RO Muhammad Ismail said Shahadat Hossain didn't mention about four criminal cases against him in the affidavit he submiited with the nomination paper.
Besides, he said he didn't mention about the sources of his income and expense in the 11C Form. So, his nomination paper was cancelled after scrutiny.
Regarding the nomination paper cancellation, Shahadat Hossain, said, "As far as I know, the cases against me have been withdrawn. Because of it, I didn't mention in the affidavit. Besides, he didn't submit 11C form mistakenly. However, I will file the appeal to the Election Commission to the Returning Officer's decision."
