Paris-based blogger and online activist Pinaki Bhattacharya and former joint secretary of Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal,  Mofizur Rahman Ashik were chargesheeted in a Digital Security Act (DSA) case filed with Ramna Model Police Station in 2022.

Mohammad Rahat Hossain, a Sub-Inspector of Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime (CTTC) unit and also the Investigation Officer of the case, submitted the charge sheet against them in the case, said GRO SI Nizam Uddin Fakir on Sunday.

Dhakas Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (CMM) Rezaul Karim Chowdhury on Sunday shifted the case to the Dhaka Cyber Tribunal for quick disposal.

The IO made a plea to drop the name of Mushfiqul Fazal Ansari, former Assistant Press Secretary of BNP chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia from the charge sheet as he did not find any evidence against him.

The IO also prayed to the court to issue an arrest warrant against Pinaki Bhattacharya as he is absconding.

The police report stated the accused are known to each other and have always indulged in spreading misleading information to undermine the sovereignty of the country.

Pinaki Bhattacharya has been spreading false and deceptive information in the form of rumours on his Facebook page with a view to creating a chaos in the country.

It is also mentioned in the charge sheet that the accused Mofizur Rahman Ashik deliberately tried to tarnish the image and reputation of the state through anti-state propaganda on social media, which ultimately falsely represented the regular activities of the law and order forces.

KM Abdullahill Maruf, Sub-Inspector of CTTC unit, filed the case against Pinaki, Mofizur and Mushfiqul with Ramna Police Station on October 15 of 2022.

According to the First Information Report (FIR), a Facebook post came to the notice of the CTTC on October 14 that year.

Through the post, distorted information about police was allegedly spread in social media about an operation conducted by police in Mirpur, according to the CTTC.
