Abducted Delwar made Singra upazila chairman

Delwar Hossain Pasha, who was abducted and tortured by the rival candidate for Natore Upazila Parishad election, has been declared chairman uncontested.

He was declared chairman uncontested by the district election officer and returning officer Abdul Latif Sheikh at the district returning officer's meeting room after allocation of symbols among the candidates of upazila parishad election.
Earlier, two candidates submitted nomination papers for the post of chairman in Singra Upazila Parishad election. After scrutiny, the returning officer announced the nomination papers of two candidates -- Lutful Habib Rubel and Delwar Hossain -- valid. However, Rubel withdrew his candidature on Sunday after the allegations of abduction and beating the rival candidate was surfaced againt him. In sequel to it, Delwar Hossain was unofficially elected chairman on Tuesday.

Lutful Habib Rubel is the joint secretary of Singra Upazila Awami League, and brother-in-law of Singra's MP and state minister for ICT Zunaid Ahmed Palak. In order to take part in the upazila election, he resigned from the post of chairman of Sherkol Union Parishad.

Earlier on Monday afternoon, musclemen of Lutful Habib Rubel abducted Delwar Hossain Pasha by a black-coloured microbus after punching and kicking him inside the Natore district election office. Five hours before it, his brother and another Awami League leader were abducted from the same area in the same way. Later, critically sick Delwar Hossain Pasha was left his village home premises. Now, he is undergoing treatment at Rajshahi Medical College Hospital.
