Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) have arrested a youth reportedly for
gang raping of a housewife and circulating its video at Nalitabari upazila in
Sherpur district on Tuesday.
A team of RAB-14 conducted a raid in the capital's Mohammadpur area and arrested the accused Kanon Mia, 25, a resident of Marichpuran Madhyapara area under the upazila, on Monday morning.
According to RAB sources, Kanon along with the main accused Rajib violated an expatriate's wife several times after blackmailing her with an intimate video of her.
RAB sources said that the victim used to live in her in-laws house since her husband went abroad where Rajib build an affair with her in absence of the expat husband. As sequel to it, Rajib forcibly violated the girl on August 11 od 2023, when his cohort Kanon recorded the scene on his mobile phone.
After the incident, they started blackmailing the victim saying that they will publish the video on internet. Later on December 9, Rajib and Kanon lured the victim and said that they will delete the video if she meet them once. When she arrived the location, where they said to go, the duo forcibly violated her several times together and also recorded the scene again.
After being informed about the incident, the victim's father lodged a case with Nalitabari Police Station.
Following the case, a team of the elite force arrested him and handed over to the concerned police station.
Kanon, then sent to jail on Tuesday afternoon following a court order, said the RAB sources.
