The fare in train journey is likely to increase as government decided to withdraw distance-based concessions for passengers from May 4 next.

A Bangladesh Railway circular provided the information on Monday.
It said distance-based and section-based concessions were given in Bangladesh Railway in 1992. After that, the section-based rebate was abolished in 2012, but the distance-based rebate remained in force.

Recently, it was decided to withdraw only the existing distance-based concession without increasing fares in passenger trains. This decision would be implemented from May 4, it said.

Passengers are currently getting 20 percent discount for 101-150 kilometres, 25 percent for 151-400 kilometres, and 30 percent for more than 400 kilometres.
