Prevent another war in Middle East

Middle East now appears to be the hotbed for one after another regional military conflict. While Gaza yet continues to bleed with blood of thousands of innocent Palestinian lives, now it is Iran to have launched a retaliatory military strike against Israel.

Responding to Israeli strike on Irans Damascus consulate on April 1 which resulted in the deaths of 7 officers of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps including 2 senior commanders - Iranian military launched a barrage of explosive drones, missiles and projectiles targeting the Israeli capital. Though most of the Iranian salvo had been intercepted and destroyed in the air inflicting limited damage, but the attack has surely sent shockwaves of probable counter attacks across the world.

The point, however, the Gaza war between Israel and Hamas, now in its seventh month, has ratcheted up tensions in the wider Middle Eastern region - spreading like wildfire to shared borders with Lebanon and Syria while resulting in long-range sporadic attacks at Israeli targets from as far away as Yemen and Iraq. And the recent Iranian attack is not an exception with its causes directly linked to Damascus consulate assault and the Gaza War.

In an attempt to clarify its position, Iranian government has officially declared the end of further military retaliation following Saturday attacks. Now if we consider the declaration as the first step towards de-escalation, the ball is now on the Israeli court.

Israel would have to stop all its supposed pre-emptive strikes targeting enemies in foreign soil while inviting future retaliatory strikes. At the same time, the international communitys role has so far been riddled with frustration, suspicion and unending criticism regarding Israel-Hamas War.

Unrelenting military onslaughts in Gaza has resulted in the deaths of approximately 34,000 Palestinians including some 13,800 children. More than 76,000 people have reportedly been wounded due to Israeli military juggernauts orgy of destruction flattening entire Gaza neighbourhoods to blowing up schools, hospitals, and all basic infrastructures, pushing innocent Palestinians to the abyss of famine and starvation. And given the thousands of missing persons presumed to be buried under the rubble - USA and its European allies must quick assess how they have collectively and also manifestly failed to restore peace in Middle East - while continuing to supply lethal military hardware to Israel.

Amid the ongoing violent chaos, it is easily understandable that the latest Iranian attack was provoked because of Israels unacknowledged bombing on 1 April of Iranian embassy annex in Damascus that killed several senior commanders.

However, that unwarranted attack crossed a red line by targeting diplomatic premises. It is surely equivalent of an assault on sovereign Iranian territory that could not have gone unanswered.

Least we expect from the hawkish Netneyahu government is to turn Middle East into a regional warzone which will engage and polarise rest of the world.
