The bodies of a father and his son were recovered by police flat at Taltala under Sher-e-Bangla Nagar Police Station in the capital on Sunday evening.
The deceased were Md Mashiur Rahman, 50 and his son Shadab, 16, an intermediate student at a college in the city.
Mashiur was found hanging inside the flat while Shadab's body was lying on the bed. At that time, Mashiur's only daughter -- a Class VII student -- was found in a critical condition, said police.
The bodies of Mashiur and his son Shadab were recovered from a flat on the first floor of a residential building at Mollapara in Taltala area. Recovering the bodies of father and son, police sent those to Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College morgue, while Mashiur's daugher Sinthiya, 13, was admitted to that hospital.
Sher-e-Bangla Nagar Police Station's inspector (Investigation) Sajib Dey said Mashiur Rahman was an engineer and used to work at real estate company. He had been unemployed over the last three years. Then he incurred losses after starting business. There was unhappiness in the family over it.
The tragic incident happened just before the iftar, said Sajib Dey. At that time, Mashiur's wife went outside to teach a student.
It is learnt that Mashiur Rahman first tried to murder son Shadab and daughetr Sinthiya by strangulating them. Then he committed suicide using a rope. Later, police recovered the body of Shadab and the daughter was found in a critical cndition. She was admitted to Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College Hospital.
