As many as 130 maund of hilsa fish have been caught by a fisherman at the Bay of Bengal, adjacent to Kuakata in Patuakhli district.

The hilsha fish were caught in the net of Surjo Majhi. The fish were later brought at Alipur fish landing station in Kalapara to sell on Saturday morning.
Earlier on Thursday (April 4) night, the fish were netted at 60 kilometers deep into the Bay of Bengal from Kuakata.

It is learnt that along with 17 fishermen, Surjo Majhi went deep into the Bay of Bengal from Alipur by a trawler, called "Allah's Doya-1 in Banshkhali on Thursday (April 4) night to catch. A large quantity of hilsha were caught when he pulled up his net. Being failed to pick the entire quantity of fish on board his trawler, he left the half on his net into the deep sea. Fishermen said the price of the hilsha caught by the 55-year-old Surjo Majhi might fetch Tk 40 lakh.

Fisherman Surjo Majhi said, "A large quantity of fish was caught when they pulled out their net. We have not been able to catch such a large quantity of fish earlier. As our tarwler was loaded with the fish, we left half of nets into the sea. We express our gratitude to Allah. Now the fish is being unloaded from our trawler to Alipur Fish Market and then the fish will be sold through an auction. Right now, I can't say how much we will receive selling our catches."

Kalapara Senior Upazila Fisheries Officer Apu Saha said most of fishermen have been catching adeaquate quantity of fish over the last one week. "We expect that different varieties of fishes including Hilsha fish can be caught once the rain begins."
