A teacher of the Department of Mathematics of Jagannath University (JnU) has been suspended following an allegation of developing physical relationship with a female student alluring to marry her.
The suspended teacher is JnU's Mathematics department's assistant professor ABS Manik Munshi. Earlier, he was relieved of all departmental activities on the same charge.
At the same time, a notice was served upon him asking why he would not be removed from his job permanently.
Besides, a notice was served upon another teacher who was temporarily suspended asking why would not be removed from his service permanently. The teacher is Film and Television department's lecturer Abu Shahed Imon.
The decisions were taken at the 95th syndicate meeting of the JnU on Wednesday (April 3). Following the meeting, JnU syndicate member Prof Dr Noor-e-Alam Abdullah stated it to reporters.
Prof Dr Noor-e-Alam Abdullah said the syndicate has suspended Mathematics department's assistant professor Manik Munshi after an allegation of developing physical relationship with a female student of his own department alluring to marry her was found to be true.
Besides, decision was taken to seek his explanation why he would not be sacked from his service permanently.
Meanwhile, decision was taken to serve notice seeking explanation from Film and Television department's lecturer Abu Shahed Imon for the second time after the sexual harassment of a female student found to be true during investigation. Earlier, he was suspended and served first notice.
Prof Dr Noor-e-Alam Abdullah further said that no decision was taken at the syndicate meeting regarding the Law department's student Fairuz Sadaf Abantika's suicide as the inquiry committee is yet to submit its report. Steps would be taken accordingly once the inquiry committee submit its report.
Meanwhile, the syndicate permanently expelled Islamic History and Culture department's assistant professor Dr Md Ziaul Huq Sheikh as he did not join his department after the expiry of education related leave repeatedly.
