Three women electrocuted in Sherpur, Khulna

Three women were electrocuted in separate incidents in two districts - Sherpur and Khulna, on Tuesday.

NALITABARI, SHERPUR: A housewife was electrocuted in Nalitabari Upazila of the district on Tuesday night.

The incident took place in Pashchim Talukpara Village under Jogania Union of the upazila at around 9 pm.

The deceased was identified as Taslima Begum, 35, wife of Ershad Ali, a resident of the village.

It was known that Taslima was cooking at the kitchen at night. At that time, fire caught their tin-shed house due to electric short circuit. As Taslima tried to off the main switch of the electric line, she came in contact with live electricity, which left her dead on the spot.

Later on, the Fire Service personnel doused the blaze and recovered Taslimas body.

Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Nalitabari Police Station (PS) Monirul Alam Bhuiyan confirmed the incident, adding that an unnatural death case was filed in this regard.   

DACOPE, KHULNA: A young woman and her mother-in-law were electrocuted in Dacope Upazila of the district on Tuesday.

The incident took place in Harintana Village under Laudor Union of the upazila at around 11 am.

The deceased were identified as Chapla Gain, 65, a resident of that village, and her sons wife Tumpa Gain, 36.

According to local sources, someone connected electricity to a paddy field from Palli Bidyut line to kill rats.

 In the morning, the mother-in-law Chapla Gain went to the paddy field to pick vegetables. At that time, she came in contact with the live electric wire and stared screaming. Hearing her screams, her sons wife Tumpa Gain came to save her and was also electrocuted. The duo died on the spot.

Being informed, police recovered the bodies and sent those to Khulna Medical College Hospital morgue for autopsies.
Dacope PS OC Abdul Haque confirmed the incident, adding that necessary steps would be taken in this regard.
