A Cumilla court on Wednesday sent Jagannath University student Raihan Siddique Amman to jail on completion of his two-day remand in a case over the death of Law Department student Fairuz Abantika by suicide.
Judge of Cumilla Chief Judicial Magistrate Court Abu Bakar Siddique passed the order when Amman was produced before it after remand, said Cumilla Kotwali Police Station's inspector (Inquiry) Shiben Biswas.
The court also denied bail to Deen Islam, a teacher of the university who was relieved from proctor post for suspected connection with the death.
A Cumilla court on Monday placed Abantika's classmate Amman and proctor Deen Islam on a two-day and a one-day remand respectively in the case.
On Tuesday, the court sent Deen Islam to jail on completion of his one-day remand.
The court also ordered the investigation officer of the case filed to submit a report within seven days.
Abantika, a student of the 2017-18 academic year of the Law Department of JnU, hanged herself at her Cumilla's Bagichagaon residence after accusing her classmate Amman and relieved assistant proctor Deen Islam in a Facebook post around 10:00pm on March 15.
In the Facebook post before committing suicide, Abantika said that Amman Siddique and Deen Islam would be responsible for her suicide.
Hours after death of Abantika by suicide, massive protest broke out and continued till Saturday morning, demanding justice for the student.
In the face of student movement, the university authorities were compelled to relieve the assistant proctor and expelled the student.
Besides, the university administration formed a four-member probe committee.
Then on Saturday, Abantika's mother filed a case against the accused at Kotwali Model Police Station in Cumilla. Police arrested Deen Islam and Amman on that day.
