Another Jagannath Uni-versity (JnU) student, Kazi Farzana Mim of the Department of Film and Television on Monday filed a complaint with the Detective Branch accusing a faculty member, Abu Sahed Emon, of sexual harassment.

She alleged that she has been subjected to various forms of harassment and was even given death threats.

She lodged a complaint at the Detective Branch office on Mintoo Road in the capital regarding the matter.

According to Mim, the harassment began in 2021, and since then, not only she  but also her family received threats.

She said in the complaint that she was unable  to lead normal life under the circumstances and sought refuge at the DB office.

The Chairman of the department, Junayed Ahmed Halim, dismissed the allegations, calling them baseless. He stated that Mim had failed in an exam previously and her allegations were merely an attempt to divert the blame. He also mentioned that she had failed in various other courses before.

Abu Sahed Emon denied the allegations, stating that he had never engaged in such misconduct as a teacher. He accused Meem of fabricating the incident to divert attention from her own academic failures.

Harun-or-Rashid, the head of the Detective Branch of Dhaka Metropolitan Police, said that  Mims complaint had been received and assured that the DB would investigate the matter thoroughly, particularly regarding the alleged threats and harassment.

Earlier on March 15, Fairuz Abantika, a student of the 2017-18 academic year of Jagannath University (JnU) Law Department, committed suicide by hanging herself after posting on Facebook why she ended her life.
