Disparities in aid distribution, challenges for Rohingya communities revealed

At least 77 percent of the fishermen are not getting any support while 85pc of the host community encircled in the camps are not getting relief supports. These host community members are facing difficulties to go in and out of the camps, especially for health and education facilities.

In respect of funding so far for each of the Rohingya families per month aid came around US$246, while study found materials of around $69, one forth has gone in the field, according to the Joint Response Planning (JRP) 2024.

At a seminar title "Rohingya Response in Coxs Bazar: Strategies and Inclusion in 2024" held in RRRC (Refugee Relief and Repatriation Commissioner) office conference room, the Joint Response Planning (JRP) was revealed.
 
Shahinur Islam, Assistat Director COAST presented the JRP in the seminar organized by CCNF (Coxs Bazar CSO NGO Forum) and COAST Foundation.

RRRC Mizanur Rahman chaired the seminar while UNHCR representative Yoko Akasaka and WFP Representative Emmanula Mashayo, Vedha, the (Inter Sectoral Coordination Group-ISCG) Deputy Leader, three local Union Parishad chairmen and several Union Parishad Members have participated.

Rezaul Karim Chowdhury, Co-Chair of CCNF and Executive Director COAST and by Zahangir Alam, Member Secretary of CCNF and Assistant Director COAST moderated the seminar.

Three keynote presentations on 3,000 fishermen, who are dependent on fishing at Naf river, since 2018 the fishing is banned, another on 14,000 host community life who are encircled within the camps were presented in the seminar.

Both the study were prepared by COAST Foundation and presented by Tanjir Uddin Roni, Head MEAL in COAST.
 
Shahinur Islam, Assistat Director COAST said that it is the cost excluded management, education, and staff salary. So far, the response has raised average 65pc fund last year it is 50pc.

Shahinur has also demanded clarity whether government taking loan for host community issue from World Bank, while they are giving grant for Rohingya refugees.

Yoko of UNHCR said that they are taking area-based approach.

Emanuela of WFP praised the effort and said that such a discourse should be happened with wider participation of agencies.
