Different courts in four days sentenced a young man to death and three others jailed for life in separate cases in four districts- Sirajganj, Natore, Narail and Chuadanga.
SIRAJGANJ: A court in the district on Sunday sentenced a youth to death for killing his step-aunt and her two sons in Belkuchi Upazila in 2022.
Sirajganj District and Sessions Judge Fazle Khoda Mohammad Nazir handed down the verdict at around 11:30 am.
The condemned convict is Ayub Ali Sagar, 29, Nandigati Village under Ullapara Upazila in the district.
The court also fined him Tk 50,000.
Public Prosecutor (PP) of the court Abdur Rahman confirmed the matter.
He said the accused was present on the dock when the verdict was pronounced.
The case statement reads that weaving labourer Ayub Ali Sagar went to his step-aunt Rawshan Aras house at night on September 28, 2022. Ayub who took loans from different individuals sought money from his step-aunt there. Being failed to obtain loan, he entered the step-aunts house at the dead of night for burglary. When Rawshan slightly moved in her sleep, Sagar anticipated that she had understood about the theft. Just at that time, he hit on the chest of his step-aunt with a grinding-stone kept inside the house. He then strangled her.
At that time, Rawshans three-year-old child Mahin who was sleeping beside his mother got awoke and started crying. Sagar also strangled the baby. Then another son Jihad got awoke and Sagar also murdered him in the same way. He later fled the house closing the doors.
In the afternoon of October 1, 2022, three days after the incident, police recovered the decomposed bodies of Sultan Alis wife Rawshan Ara and her two sons. Later at night, Rawshans brother Nuruzzaman filed a murder case accusing unidentified persons with Belkuchi Police Station (PS).
District Detective Branch (DB) of Police and Belkuchi Police started investigation into the case. With the help of technology, DB Police succeeded to arrest Sagar at around 12:15 am on October 2 in 2022 from Nandigati Village under Ullapara Upazila. Later on, the evidence of murder was seized according to his confessional statement.
Police then submitted the charge-sheet to the court and following this, the court pronounced the verdict on Sunday after examining the case records and taking depositions of the witnesses.
NATORE: An accused has been given 60 years imprisonment by a court for abduction and rape of a schoolgirl in Naldanga Upazila of the district.
Besides, the court also fined the accused Tk 40,000.
Natore Woman and Child Repression Prevention Tribunal Judge Muhammad Abdur Rahim delivered the verdict on Sunday morning. The tribunal also directed to compensate the victim with the fined money.
The convict is Hafizul Islam, 40, hails from Naldanga Upazila. He was present on the dock when the verdict was pronounced.
According to the case statement, Hafizul Islam had abducted and raped a female student of class eight of Naldanga Upazila when the 13-year-old girl was going along the rapists house at around 8:30 pm on September 13, 2019. Being the plaintiff, the victims father filed an abduction and rape case with Naldanga PS.
After inquiry into the case, investigation officer and Naldanga PS Inspector (Investigation) Nazmul Haque submitted charge-sheet to the court on December 7 last year. Later on, the case was transferred to the Woman and Child Repression Prevention Tribunal and the tribunal started recording the depositions.
After the hearing and examining the evidence, the court delivered the verdict on Sunday.
PP of the tribunal Anisur Rahman said the tribunal handed down 60 years jail sentence to the accused for the abduction and rape of the schoolgirl. At the same time, the tribunal directed to pay the victim the fined money. Following the pronouncement of the judgement, the convict was sent to jail.
NARAIL: A court in the district sentenced a man to life-term imprisonment in a drug case filed in 2012.
District Additional and Session Judge Muhammad Akram Hossain handed down the verdict on Sunday.
The convict is Torikul Islam, hails from Monirampur Upazila in Jashore District.
The court also fined him Tk 20,000, and in default, he has to suffer six more months in jail.
According to the prosecution, on December 28 in 2012, police detained Torikul along with 60 bottles of phensidyl from Pedli Village under Kalia Upazila.
Following this incident police filed a case under the Narcotics Control Act with Kalia PS and later, pressed the charge-sheet against him to the court.
CHUADANGA: A court in the district sentenced a man to life-term imprisonment in a drug case filed in 2014.
Additional District and Sessions Judge Court-2 Judge Md Masud Ali on Thursday passed the verdict in presence of the convict.
The court also fined the convict Tk 20,000, and in default, he has to suffer six more months of rigorous imprisonment.
The convict is Aminul Islam, 40, son of Haque Mohammad of Damurhuda Upazila.
According to the prosecution, on November 18, 2014 members of Department of Narcotics Control (DNC) raided a bamboo bush near Mathabhanga River in Sultanpara of Damurhuda Upazila, and arrested Aminul along with 238 bottles of phensedyl.
DNC Inspector Milon Kumar Mukherjee filed a case under the Narcotics Control Act with Damurhuda PS.
After investigation, police submitted the charge-sheet to the court on January 12, 2015.
Following this, the court pronounced the verdict after examining the case records and taking depositions of the witnesses.
