Misrule takes a serious turn in Bangladesh: Fakhrul

Foiling the 12-Party Alliance opposition's peaceful programme by police proves that the misrule has taken a critical turn in Bangladesh, said BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir.

He stated it in a statement sent to the newspapers on Sunday (February 25).

In the statement, the BNP Secretary General alleged that foiling the 12-Party Alliance's peaceful procession on Saturday (February 24), the dummy government has once again proved that. they are the anti-democratic force in Bangladesh. The 12-Party Alliance had no anti-state programme at the Jatiya Press Club premises on Saturday.

"The freedom of expression which is now recognised in democratic countries worldwide is not recognised in Bangladesh," he said.

Mirza Fakhrul said meetings and rallies are recognised by the Constitution, but that constitutional rights of the opposition political parties of Bangladesh have been taken away. "Following the dummy election, the government has become more desperate. Fascism has taken an aggressive turn under the guise of democracy in Bangladesh."
The BNP leader said that differences of opinion are the integral part of democracy in a state. Freedom of expression is not usually obstructed in a society where minimum democracy exists. But, the Awami League government has become desperate against those who express freedom of expression. It proves that misrule has taken a serious turn in Bangladesh."
