The 15th anniversary of the BDR carnage will be observed today at BGB Headquarters at Peelkhana in the capital.
BDR has since been renamed as Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB).

According to a BGB press release, special prayers and milad mahfil will be held at the BGB headquarters  for the eternal peace of the  martyrs.
Representatives of the President, the Prime Minister, the Home Minister, Chiefs of the three services, Senior Secretary of the Public Security Department of the Home Ministry and Director General of BGB will place wreaths at the graves of the martyrs at Banani Military Graveyard.

The BGB flag will be flown at half-mast at all BGB installations and all BGB officers and troops will wear black badge.

Special Darbars will be held in all BGB sector and battalion offices across the country.

A special prayer and milad mahfil will be held after the Zohr prayer at BGB Central Mosque, Dhaka Sector Mosque and Border Guard Hospital Mosque at Peelkhana for eternal peace of the martyred.

The families of the fallen will place wreaths on their graves at Banani Military Graveyard in the capital at 9am.

On February 25-26, 2009, mutineers of the then BDR killed 74 people, including 57 army officers, at the Peelkhana headquarters of the paramilitary force.

In 2013, a Dhaka court sentenced 151 BDR men and a civilian to death in the BDR carnage case, while 160 BDR men and two civilians were given life sentences and 256 others were jailed for different terms.

In 2017, the High Court Division confirmed the death penalty of 139, reduced death sentences of  eight  to life sentences and acquitted four others.

It upheld life term of 146 and handed different jail terms to 196 others.

In January 2021, nine death row convicts filed an appeal with the Appellate Division,  challenging the High Court Divisions verdict  confirming  death sentences awarded by the trial court.
