Resentment is prevailing among most of the officials and employees of the Department of Livestock Services (DLS) under the Ministry of Fisheries and Livestock over a move to give extension on contract to Director General Dr Emdadul Haque Talukder as he is due to go on post retirement leave (PRL) on February 28.
A section of the officials and employees want to retain him in the same position on contract though there are allegations of corruption against Emdad.
They are working hard to manage the authorities, so that Emdad of Gopalganj gets the extension.
But most of the officials and employees in the department are opposed to the move as the contractual appointment would block promotion of many senior officials.
If Emdad gets the extension, many qualified senior officials will be deprived SEE PAGE 2 COL 1from page 1
of their due promotion.
Most of the officials and employees also don want see DLS Director (Admin) Dr Mohammad Reazul Haque Jasim as the next DLS DG.
They oppose Jasim as hes an active member of the Agriculturist Association of Bangladesh (AAB), a pro-BNP forum of agriculture graduates.
They don want any controversial or corrupt official as the head of the Department of Livestock Services.
Among others, names of Chief Scientific Officer of Toxicology and Jurisprudence wing) Dr Amalendu Ghosh, Director (Storage) of DLS Dr Ras Mohan Adhikari, Principal of Jhenaidah Veterinary College Dr Ataur Rahman Bhuiyan are being discussed at the DLS head office as the new DG, though the Anti-Corrupition Commission (ACC) has been investigating the allegations of corruption and irregularities against all of them.
In a letter to the Anti-Corruption Commission Secretary on September 13, 2023, Fisheries and Livestock Ministry Joint Secretary Shahina Ferdousi wanted to know about the progress in investigation against these officials.
Names of former Project Director (suspended) Dr Azizul Islam, Director Planning of DLS Moloy Kumar Sur, Director Dr Mohammad Jakir Hossain, Director Dr Abu Sufian, Director Dr ABM Khaleduzzaman, Director Dr Shaninur Alam, and Director Dr Ananda Kumar Adhikari are also being discussed as new DG.
But, Emdads name is on the top, according to the sources.
Fisheries and Livestock Secretary Md Selim Uddin couldn be reached on phone.
Dr Emdad also did not respond this correspondents call and SMS.
According to the ministry and DLS officials, the ministry wants to reappoint Emdad as DG, on contract though he faces allegations of corruption.
Knowing the intention of the ministry, Dr Emdad is trying to get extension depriving due promotion of his colleagues.
The ministry is likely to approve the proposal of his extension by Sunday.
