PANCHAGARH, Feb 20: To save the potential tea industry of North Bengal, it has been recommended to give Tk 100 crore as incentive to 50 crore small tea farmers, Tk 28 crore to 28 factories with electricity of Tk 1 crore each, Tk 10 crore to tea nursery owners and Tk 12 crore to Tea Board for training, and supervision and monitoring.
This recommendation was made in the regional seminar on Problems and Prospects of Tea Industry in North Bengal held on Tuesday in the hall of Maqbular Rahman Government College- Panchagarh. Department of Economics of the college organized the seminar.
Principal of the college Delwar Hossain Pradhan was the chief guest at the seminar held under the chairmanship of Department Head Rezaul Haque.
UNESCO Research Fellow Shamsul Muktadir was the main speaker.
Panchagarh Regional Tea Board Official Amir Hossain, tea related-non government development organization Solidarity representative Mahmud Alam, Government Womens College economics Department Professor Hasnur Rashid Babu, General Secretary (GS) of Panchagarh District Garden Owners Association Md Manik Khan, Press Club GS Jamil Chowdhury Dollar, and Senior Journalist Shahidul Islam Shahid spoke at the seminar.
The seminar was conducted by Lecturer of the department Azad Noor.
Speakers demanded emphasis on increasing the quality of tea and increasing the price of raw tea leaves.
It was attended by teachers, students, tea farmers, garden owners and tea related people.
