Sagira Morshed murder case verdict has been deferred till March 13.
Special Judge's Court-3 Judge (in-charge) Md Akhtaruzzaman refixed the date on Tuesday.
As the judgment has not been prepared, the new date is refixed.
This is the second time the delivery of the verdict was deferred since February 8, said court sources.
Earlier on February 8, Dhaka Special Session Judge Court-3 Judge Mohammad Ali Hossain fixed today (February 20) for the announcement of the verdict.
As both the prosecution and defense concluded their arguments in the case on January 25, the same court fixed February 8 to deliver its verdict. But, on that day, the judgment was not announced.
On July 25, 1989, Sagira, 34, was going to Viqarunnisa Noon School on the capital's Bailey Road by a rickshaw to pick up her daughter Saharat. When the rickshaw reached the school, some muggers shot and killed her.
Abdus Salam Chowdhury, husband of the victim, filed a murder case against unnamed people with Ramna Police Station the same day.
On January 16, 2020, the investigating officer of the case, Police Bureau of Investigation (PIB) inspector Rafiqul Islam, submitted a chargesheet against four people in the court.
The investigation officer mentioned in the chargesheet that accused Shaheen had a rift with Sagira Morshed’s family. Besides, her mother-in-law disliked Sagira, and there was also a conflict between Sagira and Shaheen over educational qualifications.
On December 2, 2021, Dhaka metropolitan sessions judge KM Imrul Kayesh’s court framed charges against four people, including Sagira Morshed’s brother-in-law.
