Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) on Monday arrested a local leader of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) over killing of a tenth grader at Purbadhala upazila in Netrokona district on December 11, 2023.

RAB arrested Roman Talukder, 29, the president of the upazila BCL unit and a resident of West Budhi area in the upazila, from the capital's Nawabpur area on Monday night.
Meanwhile, the victim was Rejaul Islam Titu, 16, son of Mohammad Ali, a resident of the aforesaid area. He was a 10th-grader of Mojibor Rahman Technical School in the upazila.

RAB-14 Deputy Director (Operations) Md Anwar Hossain confirmed the information in a press release in the afternoon.

According to the case statement, one Billal Hossain (an accused of the case) was digging a land of the victim's uncle on December 11. At that time, when the victim asked them to stop digging, another accused Ayub Ali Talukder along with his cohorts locked into an argument with him. At one stage of the argument, Roman along with his cohorts started beating him indiscriminately, leaving Titu critically injured.

He was taken to Purbadhal Upazila Health Complex where the on-duty doctor declared him dead.

After the incident, the BCL central unit expelled him from incident and the victim's mother Ayesha Begum lodged a murder case with Purbadhala Police Station accusing nine people.

Following the case, a team of RAB-14 conducted a drive in the capital's Nawabpur area and arrested him.

The arrested was handed over to the concerned police station for taking further actions, he said.

Mohammad Rashedul Islam, officer-in-charge of the police station, confirmed the matter.
