Fugitive convict held after 22yrs

Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) in a drive has arrested a fugitive convict from Savar after 22 years in a case filed over killing an Ansar member in Mohammadpur area of the capital in 2002.

The arrestee was Sukkur Ali alias Sohel alias Sohag.

RAB director (legal and media wing) Commander Khandaker Al Moin revealed the information to media at a press conference at the RAB media centre at Karwan Bazar in the capital on Monday.

He said being tipped off, a team of RAB-10, conducted a drive in the area and arrested him.

The official said on March 12, 2002, an Ansar member named Fazlul Haq was shot dead and a policeman was seriously injured in Mohammadpur area.
Later, they were taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital where doctors declared Ansar member Fazlul Haque dead.

Following the incident, police constable Akman Hossain filed a murder case against three people with Mohammadpur police station

A Dhaka court served capital punishment to three people in the case in 2019. Since then, he has been on the run.
