A Dhaka court deferred the verdict in a case filed against two former teachers of Viqarunnisa Noon School and College over instigating the suicide of ninth-grader Aritry Adhikary.
On January 21 was fixed for pronouncing the verdict of the case.
Dhaka 12th Additional Metropolitan Sessions Court Judge Abdullah Al Mamun on Sunday postponed the verdict as the judgment was not ready for, setting February 8 as the new date.
The court, however, is yet to fix new date for pronouncing the verdict in the case.
The two accused are — former acting principal of the school Nazneen Ferdous and former morning shift in-charge of the school’s Bailey Road branch Zinat Akhtar. They have been suspended by the institution after filing the case.
Earlier on November 27, 2023, the court set January 21 to pronounce the verdict after the end of prosecution and defence arguments.
Aritry was found hanging from a ceiling fan of her residence in the capital’s Shantinagar area on December 3, 2018, hours after she and her parents were allegedly insulted by the teachers of the school. She was rushed to Dhaka Medical College Hospital, where doctors declared her dead.
The next day, her father Dilip Adhikary filed the case with Paltan Police Station accusing three teachers of provoking Aritry’s suicide.
On March 28, 2019, an inspector of Police’s Detective Branch, Kazi Kamrul Islam, submitted the charge sheet against Nazneen Ferdous and Zinat Akhtar to CMM Court.
