UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres has called on all parties in Bangladesh to reject all forms of violence and ensure that everyones human rights and access to the rule of law are fully respected.

"... and that is essential for consolidating democracy and economic prosperity in Bangladesh. And hes, of course, concerned about reports of the violence that weve seen," Stéphane Dujarric, spokesman for the UN chief, said in response to a question at a regular press briefing on Tuesday.

Dujarrics statement came after a journalist asked him what measures the UN secretary-general was taking to stand beside the "victims, oppressed and disenfranchised people of Bangladesh facing ruthless crackdown by the regime in the name of so-called election."
