Man hacked dead in Jhenidah post-polls violence


A supporter of boat has been hacked to death reportedly by miscreants in Jhenidah Sadar upazila on Tuesday evening.

The killing took place at around 7pm in Hamdah Ghoshpara area in the upazila.
The deceased was identified as Barun Ghosh, 42, son of Noren Ghosh, a resident of the aforesaid area. He worked for the AL nominated candidate.

According to witnesses, Barun was having tea in the evening at a tea stall adjacent to his house. At that time, a group of miscreants forcible dragged him out from the stall and took him to a roadside area where they hacked him. He was critically injured.

Locals rescued him and took to Jhenidah Sadar General Hospital where the on-duty doctor declared Barun dead.

Arun Kumar, the victim's elder brother, alleged, "My brother was being threatened by a group of miscreant as he had been working for boat in Jhenidah-2 constituency. As sequel to it, the group hacked my brother to death. We want justice and exemplary punishment of the killers."

Meanwhile, Tahzeeb Alam Siddiqui claimed that Barun went to him before the election, and told that a certain group had been threatening him not to work for AL.

"After hearing that i assured him that nothing would be happened to them as they were working for Sheikh Hasina's party," he said.

Jenidah Sadar Police Station officer-in-charge Shaheen Uddin said being informed, police were sent to the spot and they recovered the body which was kept at the hospital morgue for autopsy.

"The actual reason behind the killing could not be known immediately and police are investigating the matter to nab the accused," he added.
