At least 10 people were injured in an attack on victory procession of a winning independent candidate at Kalkini upazila in Madaripur district on Monday morning.
The incident took place at Fansiatala Bazar under Alinagar union of the upazila around 11:00 am.
The injured have been taken to Dhaka's Sheikh Hasina Burn Unit and other hospitals. The condition of two of them is critical.
According to locals, independent candidate Tahmina Begum won by defeating boat candidate Dr Abdus Sobhan Mia Golap in Madaripur-03 constituency in the 12th National Parliament Election.
On Monday (January 8) morning, a victory procession was taken out led by Hafizur Rahman Milon Sardar, former chairman of Alinagar Union. At that time, some people attacked on the procession on its way from Kaliganj to Fansiatala Bazar.
It was alleged that several bombs were thrown at that time. At least 10 people were injured. They were rescued and admitted to Kalkini Upazila Health Complex and District Sadar Hospital.
Later, two persons were sent to Sheikh Hasina Burn Unit in Dhaka for advanced treatment.
Madaripur Additional Superintendent of Police Kamrul Islam said additional police have been deployed in the area after the incident. Police are working to nab those involved in the attack.
