Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) on Monday arrested six people, including Sonatala upazila Awami League president, in a case filed over assaulting the activist of an independent candidate of Bogura-1 (Sariakandi-Sonatala) constituency.
The arrestees are upazila unit AL President and upazila Chairman Minhaduzzaman Liton, 53, Md Limon, 32, Md Raihan, 28, Md Rana, 26, Md Rajon, 35, and Nipun, 28.
RAB-12 members arrested them from Saidabad area on Monday night while they were trying to flee to Dhaka. Later, they handed over to the police.
Officer-in-charge (OC) of Sonatala police station Babu Kumar Saha said the accused were handed over to the Senior Judicial Magistrate Court of Bogra.
According to the case statement, some seven to eight Juba League and Chhatra League men attacked the independent candidate’s activist Rezwanul Haque on December 31, leaving him injured. He was admitted to a hospital.
Following the incident, wife of the injured activist filed a case with the police station against some 19 people.
