RAB arrested six people, including Bogura's Sonatala Upazila Parishad Chairman Minhaduzzaman Liton, in connection with beating of a supporter of an independent candidate in Bogura-1 Constituency.
They were arrested from an area near Bangabandhu Bridge in Sirajganj at around 11 pm on Monday (January 1).
The five others are Sonatala Upazila Awami League leaders and activists. However, their identities were not confirmed. Six people including Minhaduzzaman Liton were later handed over to Bogura DB Police.
Minhaduzzaman Liton is the president of Sonatala Upazila Awami League and brother of Awami League nominated candidate Sahadara Mannan in Bogura-1 constituency.
Earlier, on Sunday, Rezwanul Rizvi, a supporter of independent candidate KSM Mostafizur Rahman Shyamal (Eagle symbol) in that constituency, was beaten up. He is currently undergoing treatment at Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University and Hospital in Dhaka.
After that incident, police arrested Abdul Matin, general secretary of Jordagachha Union Awami League in Sonatala.
Later, Rizvi's wife Nahid Nasrin Sathi filed a case of attempted murder against Upazila Chairman Minhaduzzaman Liton and Awami League leader Abdul Matin as plaintiff.
According to the case statement, around 7-8 persons including Abdul Matin attacked Rizvi in Velurpara Charmatha area of Jordagacha under the leadership of Upazila Chairman Liton.
Bogura District Detective Police officer-in-charge Mostafiz Hasan said the arrested will be sent to court after the legal process.
