3 gunrunners held, pistol, bullets, cocktails seized

Law enforcers in a separate drive arrested three gunrunners and seized a foreign-made pistol, bullets and 41 cocktails from the capitals Darussalam and Jatrabari areas and from Rajshahi.
 
Detective Branch (DB) of police in a drive arrested two gunrunner  with two foreign-made pistols and bullets from Darussalam and Jatrabari areas in the city Saturday.
The arrested were identified as gunrunners Syed Milon and his assistant Md Alamgir Hossain, said DB Chief Mohammad Harun Or Rashid.

The DB also recovered two foreign pistols, three bullets, two magazines and two mobile phones from them.

Acting on a tip- off, a team of DB police led by Additional Deputy Police Commissioner Md Anich Uddin conducted a drive in Darussalam area and arrested Alamgir Hossain with a foreign pistol and three bullets.

Later, based on the information given by him, Syed Milon was arrested with another foreign pistol from a house in Jatrabari, the DB chief said.

After the preliminary investigation, the DB chief said arrested Milon was a gunrunner and Alamgir was his assistant.

They kept these arms and bullets to carry out terrorist activities in the upcoming elections.

He said that there are eight cases against Alamgir Hossain and nine cases against Syed Milon.

Our Rajshahi Correspondent added police, in an anti-crime operation, arrested  an alleged gunrunner with a firearm and ammunition from a place in the city on Friday  night.

The arrested person, Imran Ahmed Emon, 22, is the son of Imtiaz Ahmed of Boharampur area under Rajpara Police Station in the metropolis.

On a tip-off, a team of Detective Branch of Rajshahi Metropolitan Police (RMP) carried out the search in Bhadra area under Chandrima Police Station and arrested Emon.
    
Subsequently, the detectives recovered a foreign made pistol with two bullets and a sharp weapon after searching his residence based on his confession.

RMP Commissioner Biplob Bijoy Talukder told journalists that a couple of cases are pending against him with different police stations.

He also said they have strengthened anti-crime operations to bring the listed criminals to book side by side with recovering the illegal firearms and ammunition ahead of the upcoming general election.

In another drive members of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB), in an anti-crime operation, recovered 41 cocktails in an abandoned conditions in Sundarpur area under Shibganj upazila in Chapaianwabganj district on Friday night.

 On a tip-off, a team of the elite force conducted a raid in the area around 8:00pm and recovered the cocktails.

Lt Col Munim Ferdous, Commanding Officer of RAB-5, told journalists that the cocktails might be used in subversive activities ahead of the upcoming national election in the district.

In the recent past, some miscreants had created panic among the public in general through blasting cocktails in some key point installations, including Election Commission Office, DC Office, Chief Judicial Magistrate Office and Tennis Complex in the district.

Being informed, the RAB members recovered the cocktails in an abandoned condition, Munim Ferdous added.

"We are very much active in this regard so that none can dare to create unstable situations ahead of the forthcoming national election," he opined.
