A guide to education

A guide to education

Till the age of thirteen, studying was a choice, to do good in studies was a wish. At the young age when a childs brain develops, we process information differently, trying to find the logic and secret of existence. This is why our young brains tend to be more curious, we develop the habit of questioning every small detail of our daily lives. Sometimes those questions are completely illogical, but a part of young-us thought it was a vital question that needed to be answered. Suddenly, we grow up. We begin to understand how things work and the curious questions become limited. Our thirst for knowledge is replaced with the academic pressure to excel. Each class level becoming more difficult than the other, as we slowly immerse into the competitive world.

By the age of fifteen, studying becomes part of our lifestyle. It is now a necessity. Our subjects become divided and broader, and we begin to memorize a lot of the information taught to us in order to keep up with the syllabus. Understanding a topic becomes completely based on how much marks we score at a test. Researching further on an interesting topic is out of question. "We don have the time anymore. The upcoming test is on a different chapter." For school students up till grade tenth, education is all about that A. We want to make our parents proud, earn a good reputation for ourselves in the community. So, we start to study like robots, studying with a motivation but with no curiosity.

Grade eleventh, College first year- "Congratulations to all who survived till this stage without a breakdown. You are amazing!" By the end of tenth, we finally get a small break. A break to relax? No! This break is to pre-prepare for college years. There should be a warning with each report cards when we enter college, that boldly states "Life will only get difficult from here onwards." Not just for studies, we begin to face other real-life problems. Problems that our parents tried so hard to shield younger us from. We realize we are at the peak of the education cliff; our future depends on the next two years. If we slack off, we might lose our dream universities, but if we study like crazy, we might not be able to enjoy the final years of our school lives. The Ultimate Dilemma!

Till grade tenth, we study for our parents, for the goodwill that comes with a good grade. But for the two years of college, we begin to start studying for ourselves, for our future. Studying for college is a bit more complicated, our education now encourages us to be more curious. We try to bring out the child versions of us. We struggle but we try to relearn our curious minds, because our studies become more practical oriented. It still all for a good grade. At the age of seventeen-eighteen we learn how to multitask in life- internship ortutoring, our coaching classes, our school, and other extracurricular activities; that enrich our portfolio for university scholarships, take away the precious hours of the day. A student is left with time to study for themselves after midnight or right after sunrise. Many students start to face difficulty in trying to save up time for their own self revision. That is college, it teaches a lesson of prioritization and time management.

Up until our university admission examinations, an eighteen years old childs priority is leaving no stones unturned. By now, along with our everyday subject books and worksheets, our studying pattern require us to be constantly engaged with the subjects by researching or reviewing. Memorization becomes not enough. A lot of students begin to stress themselves during these two years, the fear of university rejections and failing as a student creeps in. Every student starts to become more serious about their education. From average students to honor students, everyone starts treating education like a religion. We maintain all our commitments, and still are able to prepare for our final college exam next week!

"We did it! We got in!" A student realizes their true potential when preparing for university applications. Every student realizes how much of a fighter they are. How ready they are to face any challenges the world will throw at them! By now our brain becomes in our control, that is maturity. When we have full control of our curiosity, memories, information capacity and mental withhold-that is called being the adult. Now our school life may be over, and more difficult problems may arise, but we know that we had survived the university admissions war and nothing could stop us from success now!
