EC serves notices to 2 candidates in Sirajganj for violations

Two candidates including one from the ruling Awami League for Sirajganj-5 (Belkuchi-Chauhali) were served show-cause notices for violating electoral code of conduct in the district on Tuesday.

The head of election inquiry committee for the constituency and district’s senior assistant judge Md Sohel Rana issued the notices to Awami League-nominated candidate Momin Mandal and former minister and independent candidate Abdul Latif Biswas.
According to the notices, the supporters of the Awami League-nominated candidate brought out a motorcycle rally with banners and festoons on Belkuchi upazila premises and paraded several roads on November 28.

On the same day, supporters of the independent candidate also took out a protest procession on the upazila premises.

The candidates were asked to reply in writing to the inquiry committee in person on December 11 as to why punitive actions would not be taken against them as per law.
