Four people were arrested along with 6.956 kilograms of gold at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport early Saturday.
Airport Armed Police Battalion (APBn), National Security Intelligence (NSI) and Dhaka Customs House jointly conducted drives and arrested them, the APBn additional superintendent of police Mohammad Ziaul Haque told media on Saturday evening.
The arrested were Md Ali Hossain, Jasim Uddin, Litu Mia and Jummon Khan. Ali Hossain arrived at the airport on a US Bangla Airlines flight from Dubai around 5:00 am on Saturday while the three others arrived at the there by a different flight around 11:00 pm on Friday.
Quoting the NSI, Ziaul said the law enforcement agencies recovered the gold in paste form, biscuits and gold ornaments, worth around Tk 7 crore, during the drive.
A case was filed against them with Airport Police Station in this regard, the official added.
