The Police Headquarters has called for tenders to purchase a total of 52,000 sound grenades including multi-impact tear shells and flashbang ahead of the national election.
Enamul Huque Sagor, additional superintendent of Media and Public Relations of the Bangladesh Police, confirmed the matter on Saturday.
It is learnt that police recently floated tenders in three packages to buy those grenades. A total of 30,000 sound grenades worth about Tk 20 lakh will be purchased under the first package, 15,000 multi-impact tear gas grenades of the same value in the second package and 7,000 flashbang grenades worth about Tk 10 lakh under the third package.
ASP Sagor said the purchase of these arms is a regular process their buying. Even they purchased those before that.
Meanwhile, security analysts assume that police are taking extra security measures to avert any untoward situation ahead of the national election. The supplier company will supply these defense equipment to Bangladesh Police within 120 days of opening the letter of credit (LC).
