Saima Akter had been working for a long time as a maid at a house at Basati Housing at Mirpur in the capital.

The 20-year-old fled the house stealing gold ornaments and other goods worth Tk 4 lakh. She sold the ornaments at three shops in Dhaka and Kishoreganj. Then she took her mother Asma Akter, 37, along with her and travelled different places of the country over the last three months. However, she could not escape. Police arrested them in Kishoreganj on Thursday. At that time, a gold chain, Tk 59,000 in cash and other goods were seized from them.
On Friday, Mirpur Police Station officer-in-charge (OC) Mohammad Mohsin disclosed it, saying that Saima fled from the house on May 25 this year with the gold ornaments and other goods. She sold the ornaments at three shops in Dhaka and Kishoreganj. Then she took her mother Asma Akter, 37, along with her and travelled different places of the country over the last three months.

The OC said she built a house for her aunt spending a portion of the money. Then she along with her mother visited different tourist places in Kishoreganj, Brahmanbaria, Dhaka and Sylhet. On Thursday, police arrested Saima from her maternal uncle's house at village Paschim Abdullahpur under Kuliarchar Police Station in Kishoreganj district. Then police arrested her mother from Konarbari in Luxmipur.

Mirpur police later produced the accused before a court in Dhaka on Friday and pleaded to place them on a three-day remand. However, the court placed them on a one-day remand for interrogation.
