Anti Terrorism Unit (ATU) of police in a drive arrested an alleged active member of the banned militant outfit 'Ansarullah Bangla Team (ABT)' from Bhatara area in the capital on Wednesday.

The arrestee Mohammad Arif, 23, used to live at a rented apartment in Bharan area of Tongi.

Superintendent of Police (Operation) of ATU Mohammad Sanowar Hossain on Thursday during a press briefing at ATU Barishara office in the capital said acting on a tip-off, a team of ATU arrested Arif from the area on Wednesday.
The official said, "Arif is an active member of the ABT and was working as the associate of another militant named Yakub Hujur."

Around 15-20 days ago, Yakub called Arif over phone and informed him that a group of ABT members were arriving in the country.

The group will hold a meeting in Tongi area and will carry out activities in the country after the meeting.

Receiving the secret information, Anti Terrorism Unit strengthened the vigilance in that area and later arrested Arif.

The official said two other members – Omar Faruk and Zahad Khan – were also working with them.

A case was filed against Arif and other fugitive militants with the police station concerned in this connection. Sanowar said they would continue their drives to nab the others.
