A Dhaka court has sentenced a former assistant vice president of a bank to 24 years and his wife to seven years of imprisonment in a graft case filed by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) on charges of embezzlement.
Judge Sheikh Hafizur Rahman of Dhaka Special Judge Court-9 passed the verdict in absence of the convicts.
The court also issued warrant against them as the duo was absconding.
The convicts are --Zahid Sarwar, former Assistant Vice President of Mutual Trust Bank (MTB), and his wife Farhana Habib.
According to the case document, Sarwar and his wife forged bank cheques with fake signatures and embezzled around Tk 5.48 crore at different times from 2016 to 2018.
On December 10 in 2019, ACC Assistant Director Shafi Ullah filed the case.
