Bureaucrats own 90 pc of ‘Begum Para,’ says JaPa MP

Ninety percent of those who siphoned off money abroad and buy houses in ‘Begum Para’ are bureaucrats, Jatiya Party (JaPa) lawmaker Golam Kibria has said.

He made the remark while participating in the general discussion on the proposed national budget for 2023-24 at parliament in Dhaka on Tuesday.

Golam Kibria said, “For a long time we knew that ‘Begum Para’ was in Canada. But few days earlier we came to know that it was in London. People think that parliamentarians may build this ‘Begum Para.’ Those who laundered money from the country and bought houses abroad, because of whom the name ‘Begum Para’ came to light, 90 percent of them are bureaucrats.”

The lawmaker said, “Find out who are those big fishes. If we can know this information then why do not those who have the responsibility to know this information is unaware about it. They must know it. If they do not know about it then remove them from their duties. Give the job to them those who are eligible for it, will not take bribes and do corruptions.”
