GCC polls

Vote ends, counting continues

The voting in Gazipur City Corporation (GCC) polls ended on Thursday afternoon. The counting of votes is going on

The voting began at 8am and continued till 4pm without any break. Meanwhile, electronic voting machines (EVMs) were used at all polling centres.

Meanwhile, two persons were detained for entering the secret room and instigating voters during the Gazipur city elections.
They were detained as per the instructions of the Election Commission (EC).

The detained men are Riadul Islam Riad at 101 polling centre and Abu Taher at 103 centre. Electoral legal action has been taken against them.

The EC said a mobile court led by magistrate ordered to keep Abu Taher in jail for three days on charge of forcing voters to cast votes.

Earlier, the electoral campaign ended on Tuesday midnight.

Eight candidates contested for the mayoral post and there are 248 councillor and 79 female councilor candidates.
