Broiler chicken and farm egg prices have increased again at the end of first week of Ramadan after somewhat decline in the last week.

Besides, the prices of vegetables have increased sharply.
Visiting Krishi Market at Mohammadpur in the capital on Friday (March 31) morning, it was found that broiler chicken was selling at Tk 220 per kg which was Tk 250-260 per kg last week.
Sonali variety of chicken was selling at Tk 330 a kg which was Tk 350 a kg earlier. Layer chicken was selling at Tk 320 a kg which was selling at Tk 300 a kg earlier.

Md Ismail, a chicken vendor at Krishi Market, said broiler chicken price has declined owing to abundant supply. There is no possibility of price going down before Eid.

He said a syndicate was involved in recent price hike of broiler chicken.

Mentioning that broiler chicken price declined in the middle of last week, he said broiler chicken price reached at Tk 180 per kg in the middle of last week. Then the price jumped to Tk 260 per kg. Today, it is now being sold at Tk 220 per kg declining by Tk 40 per kg.

Beek is selling at Tk 750 per kg, while mutton is at Tk 1,050 to Tk 1,100 per kg.

The farm egg price has declined in the market. A dozen of farm eggs is being sold at Tk 130 which was Tk 140 last week. Local duck eggs are being sold at Tk 175-180 a dozen, while the local variety of chicken eggs are being sold at Tk 210-220 per dozen.

Visiting the market, it was found that vegetables prices have remained as usual. Though one or two vegetable prices have fallen, most of the vegetables prices have increased.

Cucumber is being sold at Tk 60 to Tk 100 a kg, tall and round brinjals at Tk 80 a kg, tomato at Tk 40-50, gourd at Tk 50-60.

Green chilli is being sold at Tk 120 per kg, while green banana is at Tk 40 four pieces, and lemon at Tk 40-60 four pieces.

Onion is being sold at Tk 35-40 per kg, while large garlic at Tk 120-130 per kg. Ginger is being sold at Tk 120-130 per kg, while Chinese variety of imported ginger at Tk 200 a kg.
Potato is being sold at Tk 20-25 per kg.  

Sugar (loose) is being sold at Tk 115-120 per kg, while atta (loose) is being sold at Tk 60 per kg. Packaged atta of 2 kg is being sold at Tk 130.

Local variety of red lentil is being sold at Tk 140 per kg, while Australian variety of red lentil is at Tk 120-125.

Soyabean oil is being sold at Tk 187 a liter while salt at Tk 38-40 per kg.
