SCBA polls: 13 pro-BNP lawyers get anticipatory bail

Thirteen pro-BNP lawyers including Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) president candidate AM Mahbub Uddin Khokon and secretary candidate Md Ruhul Quddus Kazal have secured anticipatory bail in three separate cases filed.

The HC bench of Justice Md Salim and Justice Md Bazlur Rahman on Monday granted eight-week bail to them following three petitions filed by the accused lawyers.

The cases have been filed on charges of snatching away ballot papers of SCBA election, preventing police from discharging duties and vandalism during the elections on March 15 and 16.

On March 15, Md Moniruzzaman, chief of Awami League nominated the election management sub-committee, filed a case against hundreds of BNP lawyers with Shahbagh Police Station over ballot papers snatch away incident. Later another case over the same issue was filed by Supreme Court administrative official Rabiul Islam. And the third one was filed by police for preventing police from discharging duties.
