Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal (JaSaD-Inu) district president AKM Rezaul Karim Tansen has been elected member of parliament (MP) unofficially in the by-election to Bogura-4 (Kahalu-Nandigram) cosntituency.

Contesting with the election symbol of 'Torch', Tansen bagged 20,308 votes after the ballots of 112 polling centres under Kahalu and Nandigram upazilas were counted. His nearest rival Independent candidate Ashraful Hossain Alam alias Hero Alam got 19,404 votes.

On the other hand, Awami League candidate Ragebul Ahsan Ripu was elected unofficially receiving 26,296 votes. He contested the by-election to Bogra-6 (Sadar) constituency with the election symbol of 'Boat.'

His nearest rival Independent candidate Abdul Mannan Akand got 12,694 votes contesting the by-polls with 'Truck' symbol.

However, leaders and workers expressed joy after the victory of Rezaul Karim Tansen and Ragebul Ahsan Ripu were confimed from the central level.

Though the by-elections to both the constituencies were peaceful, voters' turnout was very low.

District election official Mahmud Hasan said perhaps, 15 per cent of voters cast their ballots.

Most of the Independent candidates could not appoint their agents to the polling centres under the two constituencies of Bogura. As a result, Awami League and 14-Party Alliance candidates reaped the benefits of it.

It may be mentioned that there are 4,10,743 voters against 143 polling centres under Bogura-6 (Sadar) constituency, while there are 3,28,312 voters against 112 polling centres under Bogura-4 (Kahalu-Nandigram) constituency.
