Al-Markazul Islami founder Mufti Shahidul Islam buried

Founder chairman of Al-Markazul Islami Mufti Shahidul Islam was buried at Jamiatul Ulum Al Islamia Madrasa premises at Keraniganj in Dhaka on Friday (January 27) evening.

Earlier, Mufti Shahidul Islam died at a house at Manikganj Sadar at about 11:30pm on Thursday. He was 63.

Mufti Shahidul had been suffering from various complicated diseases including diabetes for a long time.

Shahidul, also the founder chairman of Al-Markazul Islami, left behind his wife, two sons and four daughters.

Al-Markazul Islami Complex's assistant general secretary Abdur Rahman said Mufti Shahidul Islam's father-in-law's house is in Manikganj Sadar where he built two madrasas. He went there on Wednesday. He also talked to the madrasa students on Thursday evening. At one stage, he fell sick and died at about 11:30pm.

He had several minor strokes two years ago.

The first namaz-e-janaza of Mufti Shahidul was held at Baitul Mukarram National Mosque after Jumma prayer.

Later, he was taken to Jamiatul Ulum Al Islami Madrasa premises where he was buried after the second namaz-e-janaza.

Al-Markazul Islami has so far buried more than 6,000 patients who died of Covid-19 since the beginning of the pandemic. Besides, the organisation buries some 20 dead bodies everyday, on an average.

Mufti Shahidul Islam established Al-Markazul Islami in 1988. He was elected to parliament in a by-election from Narail-2 constituency on BNP-led four-party alliance's ticket in 2002.
He was also the senior nayebe ameer of Bangladesh Khelafat Majlish. In 2009, he floated a political party called 'Bangladesh Ganasheba Andolon'.
