Three Myanmar nationals have been sentenced to life imprisonment in a case involving seizure of 4,50,000 yaba tablets and 9 lakh 51,000 Mymanmar currency notes in Cox's Bazar.
At the same time, each of the convicts was fined Tk 50,000, in default, six months more jail.
Cox's Bazar's senior district and sessions judge Mohammad Ismail pronounced the verdict on Tuesday (January 24, 2023) afternoon. The same court's PP Advocate Faridul Alam Farid confirmed about the judgement.
The convicts are Myanmar nationals A Khong Sa, son of Moung Sa Du, Moung Chong Aung, son of Sang Toeng and Md Ishaque, son of Md Idris.
In the verdict, the court directed Cox's Bazar district magistrate concerned to deposit 9.51 lakh Kiat seized from the convicts, in favour of the state. After the sentence is over, it was also ordered to push them back into Myanmar.
